Destination Weddings In Tuscany

Tuscany is a dream wedding destination for any engaged couple; Tuscany offers green rolling hills, dreamlike lakes, beautiful blue skies, and towns and cities with centuries of history and culture behind them. Tuscany is one of the most romantic places to get married in the world and offers couples incredible food, hot weather, and ancient scenery.

Destination Weddings In Tuscany

As a destination wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of doing wedding photography for many couples throughout the region. I’ve seen some of the best locations Tuscany has to offer, and it is one of my most favourite places to photograph. Your wedding day is one of the most special days you’ll ever have, so it only makes sense that you’ll spend it with the people you love in an incredible location. Even if you decide not to take all of your friends and family with you on your wedding day, Tuscany is one of the best places to elope in Europe.

To help you decide where in Tuscany you want to get married, here are 5 of the very best places to get married in Tuscany.

Tuscany Destination Wedding: Florence

Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Florence offers couples picturesque renaissance architecture and plenty of romantic locations to say their vows, whether they wish to hold a religious ceremony or not. Inside the city, you’ll be able to visit boutique stores, delicious restaurants, museums, galleries, or simply walk along the canals at night hand-in-hand and gaze at the reflections of the city lights on the water.

Just outside the city, you’ll find ancient churches and beautiful villas surrounded by landscaped gardens, both of which are ideal places to hold more intimate ceremonies.

Florence makes wedding photography a dream, as the city looks beautiful all day long and right into the night. A particularly popular spot for newlywed photos is up on the Piazzale Michelangelo, where new couples can gaze out at the city and the hills beyond and have it all captured in one image.

In recent years, Florence has become a favourite wedding destination for celebrities, as Arsenal footballer Theo Walcott married his school sweetheart there, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West tied the knot, as did Melissa Joan Hart and Mark Wilkerson.

Tuscany Destination Wedding: Pisa

Pisa is best known, of course, for the Leaning Tower, but there’s much more to Pisa than just the architecture – though of course, it is spectacular! Pisa is one of the most flexible wedding destinations in all of Tuscany; offering beautiful countryside, beaches and the glistening ocean, castles, and so much more, it really is a destination photographer’s dream! In Pisa, you are free to create the wedding you want.

There are a range of different locations to choose from for your ceremony, from luxury hotels, private villas, churches, and private estates, Pisa gives you the opportunity to create a wedding you and your guests will never forget.

Just outside Pisa, you’ll find some of Tuscany’s finest countryside, incredible villas, ancient farmhouses, and medieval villages to explore or stay at, if you prefer to spend your evenings outside the city under the stars.

The weather in Pisa is suitable for a wedding at any time of the year but is best from March through October. If you want to get married in a place that is bathed in art and history, Pisa is an ideal location, and there is so much to explore you can easily stay for your honeymoon without running out new things to do.

Tuscany Destination Wedding: Siena

When photographing Destination Weddings In Tuscany almost anywhere is perfect. I think Siena is my favourite though.  Siena is a beautiful and less-known city, perfect for intimate weddings and for couples that are looking to truly escape the outside world, and is a place I’ve recently been booked in for and that I am so excited to photograph.

The city is a well preserved medieval town, enclosed by huge walls that once kept the city safe from harm, but now helps the city feel like a true escape from the world outside. The city is a vibrant place to explore and is largely car-free, so it is the ideal place to explore on foot and wander the streets to find the perfect locations for your Tuscany wedding photography.

Most of Siena’s civil weddings are performed inside the historic Palazzo Pubblico, which has been the town hall since the 1300s. The Palazzo has high carved ceilings and beautiful frescoes that create a true atmosphere and some breath-taking wedding photography.

A gorgeous and popular location in Siena for wedding ceremonies is San Galgano Abbey. Its so beautiful and super close to Villa Podernovo.

Just outside Siena, there are numerous private castles, villas, and palaces with beautifully maintained gardens which are also ideal places to hold a wedding reception and get that fairytale feel in your wedding photography.

Siena’s weather is best from April through October and is about an hour from Florence (the nearest airport) and two hours from Pisa, so it benefits from being a more private setting for your wedding – you probably won’t meet anyone else who plans to get married there any time soon.

Tuscany Destination Wedding: Lucca

Lucca, like many places in Tuscany, has historic architecture that dates back as far as the Romans and plays host to some of Tuscany’s most well-conserved villas and gardens. The streets are largely cobbled and you can use them to explore the boutiques, markets, and if you time it right you’ll be there for their famous Antiques Market, which is held every third weekend of the month.

If you want to find a city that is with easy reach of other areas of Tuscany, the mountains, and the beach, Lucca is perfect. There are plenty of outside activities to take part in and there are festivals and events happening in the city frequently throughout the year, so there is sure to be something fun going on when you visit.

Lucca was the home to one of the most famous romantic opera composers of all time, Puccini, so if you are a lover of classical music his museum is a must-visit and can offer you some great inspiration for your reception dinner music.

You also can’t talk about dinner and Lucca without mentioning their food – known to be some of the best cuisine in all of Tuscany – and if you’ve had Tuscan food you’ll know that’s really saying something. Lucca has a history of being an affluent community, so the food and wine is richer and more decadent here than in other areas of Tuscany.

If you dream of romantic wedding photography of you and your new husband or wife exploring cobbled streets, taking a moment with one another in small alleys, or dancing in the middle of a market square, Lucca is perfect.

Tuscany Destination Wedding: Arezzo

Arezzo offers couples some seriously beautiful wedding photography, thanks to its lush greenery, well-manicured gardens, incredible weather, and rich history. If you’ve dreamed of an authentic Tuscan wedding, you won’t do better than Arezzo.

Arezzo, the third-largest city in Tuscany, is about an hour from Florence (the nearest airport) and is the perfect place to hold your wedding no matter the time of year due to the warm temperatures, and a great location for your base as you go out and explore the region.

The city is largely closed to traffic and is another Tuscan city bathed in years of history, and has long been known for its antiques and thriving jewellery industry. Arezzo is known as one of the jewellery designer capitals of the world, so it may make you wish you’d waited to get there before buying your rings!

There are several medieval halls available for traditional civil ceremonies, or you can take advantage of one of their 99 churches for a religious ceremony. Otherwise, there is a stunning array of hotels, castles, and estates to choose from.

Getting married in Arezzo really does feel like stepping out of a movie, and there are countless locations to take your wedding photography and enjoy your time with your guests. Arezzo will never disappoint you.
